Dental implant or bridge? How to choose when you lose a tooth
Implants and bridges both replace missing teeth, but they work very differently. Compare how each works, who suits which, and how long they last.

Restoring the look and function of damaged or missing teeth.
Veneers cover the front of discoloured or chipped teeth; crowns cap weakened ones; bridges replace a missing tooth by anchoring to the teeth beside it. Each is shade-matched to your natural teeth.
Veneers are thin shells bonded to the front surface of teeth to improve their colour, shape or size. They suit teeth that are chipped, worn, slightly uneven or stained in a way that whitening can't fix. Crowns (caps) cover the whole tooth, and are used to protect teeth weakened by large fillings, cracks or a root canal.
A bridge replaces a missing tooth by anchoring a false tooth to crowns placed on the teeth on either side of the gap. It is fixed in place, so it doesn't come out like a denture, and it restores both appearance and chewing.
All of these restorations are shade-matched to your natural teeth. Treatment usually takes two or more visits — preparing the teeth and taking measurements, then fitting the final restoration. With good brushing, flossing and regular check-ups, they can serve you well for many years.
